Split level apartment
Completed on:
January 2008
This client came with the idea to have a split level which should be parallel to the longest wall. She very much wanted to have a round staircase. This would however cost too much space, especially with a long entry level. The top level would be very narrow too that way. That is why we turned it 90 degrees, which gave much more possibilities. Now too, the kitchen and living space are upstairs and the bedroom and bathroom, which does not need that much light are below.
Round stairs was what client spefically desired – so we made a plan using the rounding of the stairs to create a space in the middle: on the lower level the bathroom, and on the top level the kitchen. All drainage and water piping are together on one spot.
Since the windows are starting somewhere around the floor of the top level, the floor is only connected to the walls on the left wall and then trough the two iron pipes between the windows at the back. The floor is also resting on the round walls of the bathroom.
On the lower level in the dashed line one can see how the top level is covering the floor. The washing machine fits nicely under the stairs, the big sink on the wall can be used for washing yourself and the laundry.
