Below follows a short story...

Why the Haagse Kunstkring as location? The Denneweg has a strategic position towards the city centre, is easily reachable and is surrounded by 'artistic' activity. This function has a certain standing which has to do with 'taste' as well, with developing oneself and with the question 'what's beautiful'.

There will be little change on the outside: this is a protected city view. Just the space around the right three windows at the first floor, which is bordering with the showcase space, is painted in a different colour (derived from the adjacent houses to the right). The other colour matches the houses to the left.

Enneagram
There are several different applications of the Enneagram. The most common ones are about partner relations, the raising of children and professional life in all its ways. Originally, the Enneagram was applied for personal development. In the present case, it is mainly about the style of clothing of the customer, both in private situations as well as in professional life. By means of the Enneagram it is determined who you are and what clothes would fit you - your style of dressing, for example sportive or classic, creative or romantic.

At a previously agreed day, a meeting takes place (consult) with a group of customers (it is emphasised that one works with groups, but at special request it can also be done with a single customer). By means of this meeting/investigation, it is determined what kind of person the customer is. In practice it is about at first creating a climate of openness, an attitude without value judgement which is indispensable, before the participants get a chance to speak. Exercises to relax create the conditions for this necessary atmosphere of respect of one intends to repair the bodily expression, energetic language and original vibrations belonging to each of the nine types. Besides that, it is determined which style of dressing fits with the image of the customer; colours and materials are discussed, make up and hairstyle, but emphasis is given to clothing. She/he gets the chance to immediately select pieces of clothing as there are samples from different collections. However, there is also a multi media presentation. One works with all important brands on the market (Armani, Versace, but also the lower area of the more luxury segment is served with In Wear, Marc & Spencer's, H&M etcetera). Within several days a second meeting takes place, and the right clothing in the right sizes is shown to the customer. This saves the customer time. She/he does not need to go shop-in, shop-out unnecessarily and has a good consultant who is able to answer all questions. If wished, the second consult can take place at the costumer's.

The design
The Enneagram is not only used by its contents for the new function of the building, it is also used to confirm relations between spaces within the building itself (where is a specific space located, with what other ones is it connected, in what way et cetera). The selected colours and materials are derived as well from the relations within the Enneagram.

For example, the colours of the walls in the rooms which have to do with the Enneagram (2 and 8) the same. The flooring in the group rooms (7 and 8) are the same as well but different from those in the rooms for the individual customer (1 and 2).

All spaces follow the Enneagram regarding connections and situation.

With the images below a selection of drawings is shown, including floor plans and a cut-through. During the project, special attention was given to the pantry at ground floor (more information with the images) and a Personal Wardrobe which was designed according to and inferred completely for the 9 different Ennegram personalities.
