I got the idea when I heard, a marina was planned in the canal of Zieken in the Hague. I would think it would be phantastic to offer people, with their own ship, to sleep for a short while in a real bed. This city after all is the perfect location for excursion throughout the Netherlands. Options exist, too, for people who like to remain on board to take a shower, wash clothes or grab a meal. Obviously, skippers are not the only welcome guests, if you visit The Hague by car, you can get an 'apartment' here as well.

A luxury "Bed & Breakfast" - so no hotel or Youth Hostel. Every side of the building has two 'apartments', with harbour view, or a terrace at the back. The ground floor contains the breakfast room with harbour view. Besides that, there is the reception, stairwell, kitchen, room for employees and a shower and wash area for people who prefer to sleep on board. The breakfast room starts at the front door and runs through the whole building down to the kitchen. If the weather is fine, the doors can be opened and one can eat outside. There is more room than just for the overnight guests; that way also passers by can come and have breakfast.

Every 'apartment' at an own level...

The two selected middle properties (121-123 and 125-127) differentiate from each other in many ways. When watching the two facades one realises it is a hard time to create one single space behind them. The level is different by 500 mm (19.7'') at the first floor and by 600 mm (23.6'') at the second. But this is what makes it exciting! A good solution was found in placing every 'apartment' at an own level: every 'apartment' is a separate block, jointed to the stairwell.

Apartments
A good idea was to offer possibilities of making connections between two 'apartments'. If a larger group arrives, for example two couples, it could be cosy to join two 'apartments' together (apartments 1b and 2b). The wardrobes and bathrooms of respectively 1a and 2a and of 1b and 2b are above each other so there are no problems with water supply and drain. Every 'apartment' has its own colour scheme.

Apartment 1b is two floors tall. The bathroom windows of 2b border with the bedroom of 1b but because of the differences in height and the size of the bedroom there is no exposure. luxury "Bed & Breakfast" - Backluxury "Bed & Breakfast" - Back
