The house is designed for the people working on the market, who like a cup of coffee and for toilet use. The outer area can be used by tourists on days when there is no market, just for sitting down and enjoying the view.
The little house on the Delft Market Square - situationThe little house on the Delft Market Square - situationThe house fits, regarding size, well with the Hugo de Groot statue but ud eto the cetral placing of this monument, the building needs to be situated elsewhere, a place in balance with the two other buildings determining the view: the church and the city hall. A good location is with the latter building. It is not in the way there, but still easy to find. Above all, at that spot there is enough room for such a house. Regarding the surface of the city hall and the church, the church is much larger. The small building brings this a bit more in balance if it is situated with the city hall. From the house there is a good view on the church and the statue which faces the building. The orientation is selected as such that the market people can pick up their coffee at the city hall side (northern side).
View of the house: North and SouthView of the house: North and SouthThe form of the house reminds of a bell-gable and fits well in the delft atmosphere. All bent lines are constructed geometrically by using two circles; each time, they form the quarter of a circle. The middle part of the roof, which also consists of a quarter circle, is made of Perspex having daylight entering the structure. Both sides have seating in the wall added; this is done in order to reach symmetry in the building just like in the roof (see the plan, see images. As an extra, it serves as windshield. The empty walls of the building offer space for advertising.
Besides that, a free translation has been made of the house in poster size, in pastel colours. This as part of perspective/drawing studies.
